The Not So Secret Garden

Everyone tells me I have a green thumb. They’re always so impressed with a lot of my gardening. But they have not seen just how many plants I’ve killed.

But I do enjoy gardening. I’ve learned a lot about different plants over the years, both annuals and perennials. I’ve amassed a collection of plants that, from the inside, doesn’t look like a lot. But when I list them all, it’s plenty.

What I really want is to have a more “secret garden” type feeling for my plants. Something that I always tell people is that the more things in a room you have at eye level, the “heavier” and more cluttered the room tends to feel. Your eye is never drawn up, therefore everything just seems like it’s on the floor, even if it’s not.

This holds true for plants in a room. Most of my plants are on a counter, so they really are all at eye level. But I love the feeling of plants surrounding you. Especially plants that are above you. It’s like being outside. And it feels….comforting.
